The Accommodation

Recently refurbished with typical Sicilian décor and furnishings, Villa Mara is arranged all on one level and comprises of an open-plan living/dining room with fireplace, two kitchens (one modern inside and one accessed from the outside terrace with wood-burning oven), one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and two modern shower rooms. 

The villa is equipped with air conditioning, WiFi, 3 TVs, hairdryer, cot, highchair, 4 mosquito nets and the kitchen has an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster,  mixer, kettle, espresso machine, dishwasher, washing machine and iron. A cook is available (€150 + receipts).

The Garden & Facilities

Outside there is a large terrace with pergola for shade and offering a lounge area with sofas and a dining area with table, chairs, barbecue and door leading to the rustic kitchen with wood-burning oven. 

The terrace enjoys far reaching views across the rural landscape and there are steps down to the saltwater swimming pool (6m x 12m, depth min 1m max 2m, open 01/03 to 30/11) with deck surround with outdoor shower, sunbeds and parasol. There is also a table tennis table.

Villa Mara is situated in the countryside 4km from the town of Rosolini with a selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants/pizzerias, bank and pharmacy. The nearest sandy beaches are at Santa Maria di Focallo (17km) and there is a weekly market on Saturdays in Modica (25km). 

The Local Area

Rosolini is the nearest town to Villa Mara (4km) situated on the south eastern foothills of the Iblei Mountains and has been defined as 'a picturesque terrace' amongst archaeological sites and quarries dating back to the Greek and Roman periods.

Points of interest include the Cathedral of San Giuseppe built between the XVIII and the XIX century, the Fontana dei Tritoni in Piazza Masaniello, the Hermitage of Croce Santa, the Castle of the Platamones built in 1668 and the archaeological site of Cava Lazzaro. The main activities are agriculture, cattle breeding and handicraft.

Ispica is 10km away, a hillside town standing 170m above sea level and one of several delightful Baroque towns in this area along with Noto, Ragusa, Modica and Scicli. The town hosts examples of Baroque architecture such as Vincenzo Sinatra's Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, Annunziata Church, Carmine monastery and St. Barthelemy cathedral. 

The ancient town of Ispica was destroyed by an earthquake in 1693 and rebuilt on its present site but visitors can trace its origins back 4,000 years at Parco Archeologico Forza and Cava d’Ispica with cave dwellings and tombs carved into the 13km gorge.

Activities available locally include horse riding (2km), tennis at Ispica (10km), diving at Marzamemi (18km) and golf at Floridia (42km). The villa is in a strategic position to visit the baroque towns of Ispica (10km), Noto (18km), Modica (27km), Ragusa-Ibla (43km) and Scicli (32km) but also the Vendicari nature reserve (17km) and Portopalo di Capo Passero (22km) on the south eastern tip of the island.

Villa Mara is a lovely 2 bedroom countryside villa is perfect for both couples and families wishing to get away from it all! 

The villa offers typically Sicilian accommodation with a both a modern inside kitchen and a rustic kitchen ideal for when dining al fresco on the panoramic terrace. The far-reaching rural views are a real feature as is the lovely swimming pool with sun deck.

The charming local town of Rosolini is 4km away for supplies and eating out but the villa is well located for sightseeing the various Val di Noto UNESCO baroque towns in this area. 

Car hire essential for supplies, accessing the beach and exploring the local area.
