Eremo della Giubiliana is a converted 14th century fortress and monastery situated in the Iblean highlands of south east Sicily. Now a boutique style hotel, with rustic-chic guest rooms and suites, guests can savour Sicilian cuisine in the historic surroundings, relax by the pool and savour the far reaching countryside views all the way to the sea, with glimpses of Malta in the distance.
There are 8 Classic, 7 Superior and 5 Deluxe double/twin guest rooms and 7 Suites (some sleeping 4 and some on two floors) each has been uniquely created preserving the building’s original features including limestone floors and exposed stone walls.
Along with antique furniture and family artefacts, each room is equipped with telephone, minibar, safe, satellite TV, WiFi, air conditioning and en suite bath/shower room. Deluxe rooms also feature a private terrace and hydro massage bath, whilst the spacious suites (up to 50m2) are individual in design and several offer additional amenities such as a fireplace and lounge area.
Situated in the great arched hall of the ancient refectory, Don Eusebio Restaurant is a beautifully decorated gourmet restaurant offering guests a buffet style breakfast including local pastries, jams and fruits. The dinner menu is centred around local seasonal produce to create traditional Sicilian dishes which can also be enjoyed in the hotel’s fragrant garden during the summer months.
This old Sicilian countryside residence is approached along winding lanes with a private airfield close by. The driveway through the grounds leads to a car park and the reception lounge offers a warm welcome where multilingual staff will offer guests information about the hotel and local area.
Don Eusebio Restaurant is in the central building along with some guest rooms. Outside there is a courtyard leading through to the suites and the pool situated in the gardens shaded by trees. The Asphodelus wellness area offers a variety of beauty treatments and massages and local wine tasting and cookery lessons in the old mill (pre-book, extra cost) where guests can learn about the history of the Eremo estate that produces grains, olive oil, turkeys and wine. The hotel also has its own archaeological site, a small necropolis which dates back to the 5th and 3rd century BC.
Excursions (extra cost) can be arranged by road to the local historic towns of Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Scicli and further away to Agrigento, Syracuse, Noto and Ispica. Alternatively, guests can go by private aircraft over Mount Etna and to Malta and by boat to the Mediterranean islands of Lampadusa and Pantelleria.
Eremo della Giubiliana is situated 13km south of Ragusa, a beautiful town rich in Baroque architecture and part of the Val di Noto UNESCO Heritage site. Peppered across two sections of the town are 18 stunning pieces of architecture that have been secured by UNESCO, drawing in art and history enthusiasts from all over the world.
The Duomo di San Giorgio, Cathedral of San Giovanni and Church of Santa Maria dell'Itria are just a few of the sites near to the Eremo della Giubiliana, making it an ideal base for guests looking to explore this fascinating town. For further historical and archaeological interest Modica is 22km, Scicli 24km and Ispica 40km away. The coast and beach at Marina di Ragusa is 14km.
Eremo della Giubiliana is a great choice for those with an interest in historic art and architecture. This original fortress and monastery has been family owned since the 18th century who have converted it into a boutique style hotel.
It is immersed in rural Sicily, similar to England’s rolling hills with dry stone walls yet, being further south than Tunisia, has an amazing warm all year round climate.
The suites are highly recommended with beautiful original features and the restaurant creates typical Sicilian dishes using produce grown on the surrounding estate, accompanied by local wines.
It will suit couples or small groups wishing to explore this part of the island, being surrounded by towns of great historic and cultural interest, yet unwind in a tranquil, luxurious environment.

"Lovely hotel. Beautiful garden and fantastic food, especially the light lunch of local produce. Very friendly and helpful staff gave great advice about parking place in Ragusa etc."
