The Accommodation

Once a historic residence, this charming hotel with colour wash and granite rendering to blend with the surrounding environment has 42 Standard, Superior and Deluxe guest rooms and 2 Suites arranged on 4 floors, serviced by a lift.  

Each room is different and spacious, with typical Sicilian traditional furnishings, satellite TV, DVD or CD player (on request), safe, minibar, hairdryer, writing desk, air conditioning, WiFi and en suite shower room (Deluxe Rooms have a hydromassage bath as well). Most rooms have a balcony or terrace with stunning views over Mount Etna and/or countryside. 

The Restaurant & Bars

The hotel offers a continental style buffet breakfast served inside or in the summer months on the terrace. Parco Reale Restaurant is accessed via an original 19^th century gateway and furnished with antique furniture inside and also has a panoramic terrace to enjoy typical local cuisine with an original taste of Sicily, accompanied by the best Sicilian and Italian wines from the Divino wine cellar.

There is a lounge bar with piano music on some nights and a pool bar with grill for lunch, snacks and drinks throughout the day (high season). 

The Facilities

The swimming pool (open May-September) is situated on a panoramic terrace with sunbeds, parasols and shaded poolside bar. There is also a sauna (on request, extra cost), solarium and a mini jacuzzi pool reached by steps from the terrace of the main pool (extra cost, on request).

The 24 hour reception with concierge offering guests hotel and local information, room service, laundry service and babysitting (all extra cost). There is free WiFi, a shuttle service to Taormina town and the hotel can arrange excursions to Etna, the Aeolian Islands, Syracuse, Agrigento, Alcantara Gorge (with prior booking), typical Sicilian vineyards with lunches and wine tasting and boat trips around the Bay of Taormina.

The hotel can arrange trips to Lido Sole-Luna beach in Mazzeo on the north side of Taormina, 10km from Castelmola.  The beach service includes a return shuttle bus, sunbed and parasol for the day: €10 per person per day (May - October).

The Local Area

Just 3km from Taormina, the beautiful hamlet of Castelmola is widely considered to be one of the most stunning locations in Sicily. With its 13^th century castle ruins, winding streets, olde-worlde charm and striking views of the coastline and Mount Etna, Castelmola allows visitors to immerse themselves in the Sicilian culture whilst enjoying the quiet, tranquil atmosphere of a small village.

The views surrounding Castelmola rival even those of Taormina, perched approximately 1,800 feet above sea level. There is a small selection of shops, traditional restaurants and bars serving a local wine called Vino alla Mandorla.

Hotel Villa Sonia promotes a philosophy of ‘slow living’ by providing a tranquil environment for guests to feel at home and enjoy some relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of Taormina.

Castelmola is a beautiful little hillside town situated high above Taormina and offers some of the most stunning views in all of Sicily. However, being just 3km away from the centre of Taormina and 9km from Isola Bella, guests can easily access both the town and beaches and then return to the peace and quiet afforded by this village location.

Being family run the staff at this hotel will be sure to look after you and I would highly recommend upgrading to a Superior room with balcony for amazing views of Mount Etna.
