The Accommodation

Returned to its original splendour and retaining many of the old features, Villa del Lauro offers 15 spacious and contemporary guest rooms and suites arranged over 3 floors (no lift), most overlooking the courtyard, garden or pool. Each room is equipped with a telephone, minibar, safe, TV, WiFi, air conditioning and en suite shower room with courtesy set. Cot available on request (€15 per night).

Classic Room (10m², sleeping up to 2) double room with French balcony and a garden or street view. 

Superior Room (18-25m², sleeping up to 3) double/twin room with French balcony and a garden or street view. Some rooms can accommodate an extra bed.

Deluxe Room (50m², sleeping up to 4) double/twin room on the ground floor with terrace and character stone vaulted ceilings or on the first floor with balcony. Some rooms have a double sofa bed and others can accommodate a third bed.

Suite (50m², sleeping up to 4) double room with a double sofa bed, one on the first floor with a vaulted ceiling, and two on the second floor with a mezzanine floor and a balcony with views over the old town of Ragusa Ibla.

The Facilities

Offering a peaceful hideaway from the bustling city of Ragusa, Villa del Lauro has a terraced picturesque garden with a swimming pool (open April - October), adjoining hydro massage pool and sunbeds on the lawn.

A continental buffet breakfast is offered in the upstairs dining room.  

The reception welcomes guests with hotel and local information and offers a laundry service, babysitting, room service (on request), bicycle and quad rental and also excursions including cooking classes, food and wine tours and other activities (all extra cost).

A Spa & Wellness centre is available at De Stefano Palace (sister hotel) 100m from Villa del Lauro with heated pool with hydromassage jets, steam bath, emotional shower, massages available and relax area to have a cup of tea or herbal infusion.

The Local Area

Ragusa is situated in south east Sicily, built on a wide limestone hill between two deep valleys. In 1693 the city was devastated by an earthquake and was largely rebuilt forming two distinct areas, the lower and older town of Ragusa Ibla and the newer upper town of Ragusa Superiore with many Baroque buildings from this period.

The two towns, separated by the Valle dei Ponti, a deep ravine crossed by four bridges including the 18^th century Ponte dei Cappuccini, remained separated until 1926 when they were fused together to become the provincial capital.

Ragusa is renowned for its Baroque buildings and together with 7 other cities in the Val di Noto, it is part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites which includes 9 major churches and 7 palazzi, drawing art and history enthusiasts from all over the world.

The main sites in Ragusa Superiore include the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista just 650m from Villa del Lauro and the Museo Archeologico is 1km away. Ragusa Ibla is accessed via steps not far from the hotel with many places of historical interest such as the 15^th century church of Santa Maria della Scale, Duomo di San Giorgio and the Hyblean gardens with stunning views.  It is a delightful old town to wander round with the central Piazza Duomo (2km from the hotel) which comes to life in the evening with many restaurants including 3 with Michelin stars.

From Ragusa other historic towns of interest to visit include Modica 14km away, Scicli 25km, Ispica 33km and Noto 50km. The coast and beaches at Marina di Ragusa are approximately 25km.

This elegant Baroque style house has been restored to create a lovely boutique hotel in an ideal location in Ragusa Superiore, near to the steps to Ragusa Ibla. 

The hotel has preserved some of the original features of the building, yet the character guest rooms and suites have all the modern comforts you would expect.

This hotel is ideal for families and couples to explore the streets and picturesque alleys of the city and marvel at the Baroque art and architecture.
