Situated in the heart of south west Sicily, La Foresteria is owned and run by the Planeta family, wine and olive oil makers for 500 years. Nestled amongst vineyards and olive groves, there are 14 guest rooms, restaurant and bar, pool, cooking classes and wine tours.
The guest rooms are furnished with warm Mediterranean fabrics, in a typical traditional Sicilian style and surrounded by herb gardens, some with lovely views over the vineyards to the sea beyond.
There are 4 Dependence rooms (20-24m2), 3 Rooms with View (20-24 m2) and 7 Junior Suites (20-35m2) all with king size bed or 2 queen size beds suitable for 2 adults + 2 children (up to 12 years).
All the rooms have en suite bathroom with bath/and or shower, air conditioning/heating, Sky TV, telephone, iPod dock, coffee maker, safe, hairdryer, minibar, laundry service (extra cost), cot (on request) and terrace.
There is a dining room with convivial table and garden room overlooking the vineyards, both serving a buffet breakfast with an array of local delicacies and contemporary Sicilian cuisine with Chef Angelo Pumilia interpreting traditional recipes of Casa Planeta and combining the rich food culture of the island to offer a menu and two tasting itineraries.
The restaurant is also open to non-residents. The staff can offer child-friendly menu suggestions and cater for any food allergy or intolerance.
The outdoor swimming pool has a terrace with sunbeds, parasols and poolside bar overlooking the vineyards. There is a fitness and Wellness centre equipped with exercise bikes, treadmills and body-machines, Turkish bath and massage treatments are available (extra cost).
Guests have complimentary access to the beach club with sunbeds, parasols, showers (June - September) at Porto Palo (5km), which has been awarded 19 blue flags. Bikes are available for adults and children to explore the nearby nature trails running through the vineyards and olive groves.
The reception can arrange local activities such as golf, tennis, horse riding, fishing, sailing, flights over the coast and babysitting (all extra cost). There is a guest lounge with reading area, TV, computers and games and a wine room for tasting sessions.
La Foresteria offers One Day Experiences that combines wine, food and nature. Guests will be divided into small groups and choose from cooking classes, wine tasting, olive oil tasting, bike and walking tours from 10:30am to 12:30pm.
The morning activities will end with a refreshing aperitif served on the terrace overlooking the vineyards, followed by a lunch prepared by our chef Angelo Pumilia (extra cost).
Chef Angelo Pumilia’s cooking classes explore Sicily’s rich culinary traditions, founded on the use of locally sourced ingredients, extra virgin olive oil, native vegetables and herbs. Each class ends with a communal lunch served with a selection of fine wines. Participants can choose from a range of demonstrations or hands-on classes, extra cost:

Planeta’s Wine Tours (extra cost) are tailored to satisfy the seasoned tourist and the enthusiastic novice alike with a journey through different traditions and flavours to explore local culinary practices, artisanship and the rich history of 6 regions in Sicily.
Tasting sessions are available as well as lunches and refreshments inspired by the culinary traditions of the Planeta family.
Visits to the vineyards and the winery with a variety of tours start from €35pp including guided wine tasting, tasting 3 olive oils and aperitif with appetizers and typical products. Guided trekking on Mount Etna also available.
Guests can enjoy tasting sessions, cooking classes and themed menus dedicated to olive oil (extra cost). During the harvest and milling season, guests can book a tour of La Caparrina and sample the new freshly pressed oil.
Menfi is in the Province of Agrigento in the south west of Sicily, located about 70km southwest of Palermo. The town, which is 3km from the coast, was devastated by an earthquake in 1968 and still to this day has derelict streets.
It is 7km to the coast at Porto Palo, a fishing village and summer resort with a beach and a few restaurants.
The Greek archaeological site of Selinunte is 15km away and The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento 88km, both well worth visiting.
