This resort hotel, with choice of restaurants, pools, spa and wonderful views, is an ideal base for those looking to relax and explore the volcanic Aeolian islands nestled between the north east coast of Sicily and southern Italy, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Vulcano can be accessed from the port of Milazzo in north east Sicily by hydrofoil (journey time approximately 45 mins) and the resort offers a complimentary shuttle service from the port.

The dazzling white hotel stands out against the promontory of Vulcanello which has been created using local materials such as molten rock from Mount Etna, Sicilian terracotta and cedar and olive wood.

All the guest rooms and suites are decorated and furnished in Mediterranean style and have en suite bath and/or shower room in black lava stone with Sicilian terracotta tiling, hairdryer, satellite TV, air conditioning, minibar with complimentary soft drinks, telephone, radio and a safe.

The resort has 4 restaurants all enjoying views of the sea and ‘faraglioni’ of Lipari and proudly offering local Sicilian cuisine prepared with passion and skill.  The chefs produce dishes made from locally sourced, quality ingredients including fish and seafood from the Aeolian Islands, vegetables from Catania, cheeses from Syracuse, meat from Nebrodi and Sicilian desserts such as Cannoli and Cassata, accompanied by a selection of local wines.  

L'Arcipelago Restaurant has a large outdoor terrace and serves a buffet breakfast and dinner with table service and the 1 Michelin star Il Cappero Restaurant (open April - October) features the typical ‘cannizzi’ straw shaded terrace with superb setting and stunning views of the Aeolian Islands. I Tenerumi serves vegetarian organic dishes with handpicked ingredients grown on site using the hotel's own solar power. I Grusoni  is a grill & pizzeria by the pool for lunch and dinner.

There are 2 bars: The lounge bar Il Faraglione which has a terrace boasting one of the most spectacular views in Sicily offering drinks, cocktails, selected wines and traditional Italian aperitivos to enjoy whilst watching the sunset and has live music on some evenings; the poolside bar I Russuri with views of the ‘faraglioni’ of Lipari serving drinks, fresh fruit smoothies and snacks throughout the day.

There are 2 infinity pools, one with hydro-massage jets, with wonderful views over the sea from the terrace furnished with sunbeds and parasols. The hotel has direct access to a private bathing area also equipped with sunbeds and parasols on the rocky terraces.

The gardens are filled with cactus plants and palms originating from all over the world and there is a path that winds along the headland by the sea, with spectacular views and sunsets over the islands of Alicudi and Filicudi.  

The reception can help with local information, offers a complimentary shuttle to the port (1km) and can arrange excursions and guided tours to visit the other Aeolian Islands, trekking to the Gran Cratere of Vulcano (approx. 50 mins), Scuba diving and boat hire to explore the numerous coves and bays on the island (all extra cost).  

The town of Vulcano offers a variety of entertainment with a selection of shops, outdoor bars and restaurants and there is a nightly boat service to Panarea and Lipari.

The spa features an indoor warm water pool and hydro massage, sauna, Turkish bath, emotional showers, fitness area and offers a wide range of face and body treatments using advanced techniques with aromatherapy and perfumed oils relieving tiredness and stress (all extra cost).

It is possible to access the Aeolian island of Vulcano by hydrofoil (journey time approximately 45 minutes) from the ports of Milazzo and Messina in north east Sicily and Reggio Calabria on mainland Italy.

Therasia Resort is located just 1km from the town and port of Vulcano accessed by complimentary shuttle and boasts a stunning location with views over the entire Aeolian Islands: Lipari, the largest of the islands (just 10/15 minutes by hydrofoil from Vulcano) with its majestic ‘faraglioni’, Salina, Stromboli, Panarea, Alicudi and Filicudi, all within easy access by hydrofoil.

Once known as Therasia meaning hot and Hierà meaning sacred, the island of Vulcano is 21km 2 and lies at the southernmost point of the Aeolian group. Separated from Lipari by just a small stretch of sea, Vulcano remains unspoilt with lush vegetation, smoky fumaroles and renowned natural mud pools.  

The volcano dominates the island, its peak ‘Gran Cratere’ reached by trekking in about 50 minutes with breathtaking views over the islands including Stromboli smoking and erupting. There are natural mud baths located close to Porto Levante and it is possible to swim in the warm waters, used for healing therapies, where hot underwater springs flow up into the sea.
