The Accommodation

The guest rooms are typically Mediterranean, comfortably furnished, all with en suite shower room with hairdryer, air conditioning, safe, minibar, TV, telephone, most with terrace or balcony. 

There are double, triple and family (sleeping up to 4) Standard rooms, some on the first floor with garden views. The Deluxe double and triple rooms have views of the Gulf and the Suites (sleeping up to 4) are either one large room or a double bedroom and a separate lounge area with sofa bed, all with bathroom and large balcony have sea views.

The Restaurant & Bar

A buffet continental breakfast with local delicacies is served in a dedicated room with an outside terrace to enjoy the sea views.

The restaurant for lunch and dinner also has a terrace and serves excellent Sicilian cuisine including fresh fish of Castellammare del Golfo, wildfowl of Alcamo and seasonal fresh local vegetables, followed by delicious and renowned Sicilian desserts such as cannoli, cassata, frutta martorana, accompanied by prestigious white and red wines from the island.  

There are indoor and outdoor bars serving drinks throughout the day and evening.

The Facilities

There is an outdoor pool and terrace with sunbeds and parasols overlooking the beach. The hotel has a reserved area on the beach also with sunbeds and parasols and beach activities.  

There is a reading room, TV room and 24 hour reception which can arrange excursions and guided tours to the nature reserves of Bosco Alcamo and Lo Zingaro, the archaeological sites of Segesta, Erice, Palermo, Mazara, Marsala and boat trips to visit the marine reserves of the Egadi islands. It is also possible to visit the wine cellars which produce the prestigious wine Bianco d’Alcamo DOC.

From the hotel it is just a short drive to the centre of Castellammare del Golfo with a selection of shops, bars and pizzerias.   

The Local Area

Castellammare del Golfo is a charming coastal town encircled by mountains in north west Sicily between Trapani and Palermo. It is known primarily for its harbour which, during the summer period, comes to life with a variety of bars and restaurants on the water’s edge.

The surrounding area of natural beauty has several towns rich in history and culture including Erice, Trapani, Palermo, Monreale and Segesta Archaeological Site boasts some great examples of ancient Greek architecture.

Boat trips are available to visit the Egadi Islands, Ustica and the coastline to San Vito lo Capo via Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve that encompasses 7km of rocks, caves, beaches and hiking trails.

Just a short journey from Palermo airport, Hotel La Battigia is ideal for a relaxing beach holiday for couples and families but is also ideally situated to visit places of cultural interest in the north west of Sicily. 

It is very good value especially for half board for a hotel situated right on the beach. I can recommend the restaurant and there are fantastic views and sunsets from the terrace.
