The Accommodation

The colour-washed hotel has been transformed from several traditional cottages. The guest rooms are arranged in the grounds, some above the main house, others in the gardens, all named after local flowers and arranged on various terraces with scented lime trees, bougainvillea and jasmine.

The rooms are decorated in a traditional Aeolian style with whitewashed walls and tiled floors, and simply furnished with wrought iron beds and antique furniture. They all have shower / bath room with hairdryer, bathrobe and slippers, air conditioning, ceiling fan, satellite TV, telephone, WiFi, minibar, safe, terrace/balcony with views of the sea.
Superior Room (18-20m², sleeping up to 4) double bed (twin beds and third or fourth beds on request), some with terrace, others on the first floor with French windows with views of the surrounding hills or gardens, suitable for families of 4 some with mezzanine.
Deluxe Room (26m², sleeping up to 3) double bed (twin beds and third bed on request), all are on the first floor with a french balcony or terrace and partial or full sea views.
Executive Room (30m², sleeping up to 3) one located on the first floor and one on the ground floor these are double bedrooms (twin beds and third bed on request available in the ground floor room) and terrace with lovely views of the sea and gardens. 
Suite (40-45m², sleeping up to 4) double bedroom, separate living room with sofa bed and desk and terrace with partial or full sea views.
Villa Suite (60-70m², sleeping up to 4) double bed (twin beds and third or fourth beds on request), separate living room and master bedroom with antique bath and with lovely views of the sea with the islands of Stromboli and Panarea on the horizon.

The Restaurant & Bar

A delicious a la carte breakfast with local fresh fruits and pastries is served on the terrace or in the garden room in the morning and guests are offered dinner in the evening on request (extra cost).

The Signum's chef Martina Caruso (who has been awarded one Michelin star) uses locally grown ingredients to create a high standard of Mediterranean cuisine and dishes include homemade pasta and fish specialities. Both lunch and dinner can be enjoyed on the terrace, surrounded by citrus and jasmine trees with views over the sea to the islands beyond. 

There is a cocktail bar where guests can order drinks to enjoy by the pool or on the terraces whilst relaxing and savouring the atmosphere and stunning views.

The Facilities

The informal reception is surrounded by antique furniture, objets d'art, paintings and there is a library and sitting room with vintage books and games.

The hotel can recommend excursions, wine tasting, boat trips, diving, sailing and hikes to see more of the island, climbs up to the volcanic craters and enjoy stunning views of Salina and to the volcanic islands of Stromboli and Panarea.

Various terraces and steps lead to the pool, terrace with gazebo and sunbeds to relax and enjoy the view over the Salina coastline.

Guests can enjoy a short 150m walk to a local rocky beach with clear blue sea for swimming and snorkelling and the town of Malfa is less than 1km with a selection of artisan shops, restaurants and cafes.

Spa Hotel

Salus per Aquam Spa offers Roman style sunken outdoor Thalassotherapy pools fed from natural springs, steam room, Kneipp walk, jacuzzi and massage area where guests can experience treatments using locally grown products in the volcanic earth such as malvasia, capers, prickly pear, lemon and bitter orange (extra cost). Entrance to the wellness area is €30.00 per person.

The Local Area

Salina is the second largest of the Aeolian Islands (27km²) divided into 3 communes: Santa Marina on the eastern coast, Malfa to the north and Leni to the southwest.

Salina is the greenest of the islands and is home to two extinct volcanoes, Monte Fossa delle Felci (968m) the highest peak in the archipelago and Monte dei Porri (886m), both almost perfectly preserved. The twin volcanic cones give this popular island to the north west of Lipari its distinctive silhouette. They are extinct but have left a rich soil for the growing of capers and the malvasia grapes that produce a smooth sweet wine.  

Ferries dock at Santa Marina (7km from Hotel Signum) which has a pebble beach north of its pretty harbour.  Just to the south at Lingua is a salt lagoon that earned the island its name. The most attractive swimming cove is at Pollara in the north west.

Those visiting the Aeolian Islands will discover remote and idyllic places with stunning natural beauty, clear air, unpolluted seas teeming with fish and a soporific way of life in romantic isolation. Huw's View

We are delighted to feature Hotel Signum on the Aeolian Islands, listed in the UNESCO world heritage sites, off the north coast of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea. 

Located on the island of Salina, accessed by hydrofoil from Milazzo, Hotel Signum is 7km from Santa Marina ferry port and is a charming small hideaway hotel.  

The rustic yet stylish guest rooms and suites are furnished in typical Salina style, some having wonderful sea views as do the terraced gardens, pool, bar and restaurant over this very green and fertile volcanic island and to the islands of Panarea and also to the active volcanic island of Stromboli which smokes during the day and lights up the sky at night.

Compared the other islands in the archipelago, Salina is still quite untouched by tourism which makes it a special place to visit.
